Crab, lobster, mackerel, mussels, sea bass, turbot - there's a feast of fish on the menu for
Pembrokeshire Fish Week 2010!
One of Wales' premier festivals, Pembrokeshire Fish Week from 26th June to 4th July is packed with events all over the beautiful county of Pembrokeshire.
The celebration of the county's abundant seafood, spectacular coastline and fishing heritage has reeled in a haul of awards since it was launched in 2000.
It currently holds the Gold award in the Food Tourism Destination category in the Wales True Taste Awards 09/10 - and 'Premier Event' in the Pembrokeshire Tourism Awards 09/10.
Kate Morgan, Food Officer for Pembrokeshire County Council and organiser of Fish Week, said it is a hugely popular fixture on the national festival calendar.
"Around 25,000 people enjoy Fish Week every year, with many travelling from outside the county to take part," she said.
"Food-lovers have hundreds of opportunities to tuck into fresh, locally-caught fish and shellfish at seaside restaurants and pubs, as well as family fun days and outdoor events.
"Come and enjoy seafood extravaganzas, fish chowders, homemade fish pie suppers, fresh fish barbecues, shellfish lunches, paella and other seafood delights from around the world - or traditional beer-battered cod with hand-cut Pembrokeshire chips."
Those who love cooking can also enjoy masterclasses, demonstrations, cookery classes, tutored tastings, and talks.
Celebrity chefs Val Warner, Mitch Tonks, Matt Tebbutt and Angela Gray will be holding masterclasses, tutored tastings, demonstrations, cookery classes, and talks, and champion fish craftsman Duncan Lucas will be holding filleting demonstrations and workshops.
Valentine Warner, presenter of the BBC2 series 'What to Eat Now', will be hosting a fish and shellfish Masterclass at the Torch Theatre in Milford Haven on June 30th - let him entertain you with seasonal dishes from the Welsh coast.
Enjoy a tutored tasting and supper at the seaside Swan Inn in Little Haven with celebrity chefs Mitch Tonks and Matt Tebbutt - a real treat for fish lovers.
Mitch and Matt will also be serving up a 'Feast of Fish' with several of Pembrokeshire's finest chefs at a new bistro marquee at Fish Week's family opening day at Milford Haven Marina. The chefs will be cooking and serving fresh locally-landed fish all day.
The fun-filled opening day will also feature mouthwatering fish and shellfish cookery demonstrations with Angela Gray and filleting demonstrations from Duncan Lucas.
Later in the week, Angela Gray will be holding new seafood cookery classes at Slebech Park - find out how to cook seafood to perfection and harvest seasonal ingredients from the walled garden to compliment your menu.
If you love the great outdoors, there are lots of opportunities to combine sampling the very freshest fish and seafood with coastal activities - enjoy Pembrokeshire's dozens of award-winning clean, sandy beaches and some of the warmest waters in the country.
Take a leisurely early evening cruise around the seabird paradise of Skomer Island, and return to The Clock House restaurant in Marloes for a delicious supper, including fresh seafood choices.
Find out why coasteering is so popular in Pembrokeshire with friendly, qualified guides - scramble around the coastline and find out how to forage for the many edibles on the coast. Or spend the day coasteering and having fun in the sea, rounding it off with some warming fishy broth, fresh bread and a hot drink on a local beach.
There are also chances to cook your catch - try a spot of kayaking and fishing with the Sea Kayak Guides, pull up on a beach and cook what you catch! Or try a mackerel fishing trip from Solva harbour and take your catch to the local Cambrian Inn where they will cook it for you.
"Fish Week is all about making use of Pembrokeshire's wonderful natural assets like the coastline and rivers, and bringing those together with our fantastic local produce," said Kate Morgan.
"It's also given a wider dimension to food tourism, helping local businesses to link together and explore new ways of promoting themselves in the rest of the year."
Pembrokeshire Fish Week is organised by Pembrokeshire County Council and part funded through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013, which is financed by the EU and the Welsh Assembly Government.
