Opening Day Event at Milford Fish Docks
Pembrokeshire Fish Week Festival Open Day Event - Saturday 22nd June
Start your festival week at our opening event - A must for food lovers and the whole family.
Buy the freshest catch from our Fish Market - choose from a range of locally caught fish and shellfish straight from the fishermen, supported by Cywain Fish. Make the most of your fresh purchase, watch Duncan and Sue Lucas from Passionate About Fish as they fillet, prepare and present Welsh Seafoods fish and shellfish like you've never seen before!
Try a new recipe inspired by cookery demonstrations with Angela Gray, supported by Milford Haven Town Council and hands on workshops for children and adults with S4C chef Tim Maddams in the Valero marquee. Plus you can take home some excellent quality ingredients and treats to make it a really memorable food experience, from the many local produce stands around the waterside.
Sample a selection of wonderful fish dishes from our show case of talented local chefs in the Blas Y Tir ‘Feast on Fish' pop up restaurant, accompanied by the famous Pembrokeshire early potatoes. For food on the go, there are plenty of seafood based street food options from lobster rolls to wraps, plus plenty for non fish lovers too.
Why not relax and take in the atmosphere with performances on the live music stage throughout the day, including our headline act ‘Paper Aeroplanes'.
For families, there are a host of free activities for all ages including a Sea of Creation courtesy of South Hook LNG with graffiti, art and craft drop in workshops and pavement painting. Be mesmerised by Matt the Magic Man, become sea shanty singing pirates and mistresses with Anvil Productions and dare to walk their plank. Make way for the Cornish Fishermen and their boat as they sing their way through the crowds or get into the rhythm with the Samba Galez drum and dance group. Imagine yourself a real pirate on the Tall Ship ‘Irene of Bridgewater' with the folk music of Vagrants Crew on the dockside. Don't miss cheering on the fun ‘crab off' and filleting competitions.
Check out the Learning Lagoon to discover the under water world, our coastline and sustainable fishing; dip into touch tanks, coastal quiz's and activities for Seafarers Awareness Week. Try a kayak taster session with Haverfordwest Kayak club or see the skills of the sea cadets rowing.
Enter the Festival Treasure Trail for a great way to explore the various activities and stalls, plus a chance to win a VIP Family Ticket to Folly Farm - open to children under 15yrs. Pick up your treasure map entry form from the Festival information stand.
With plenty of stands to browse, from craft to exhibitions, fishing heritage, RNLI, fire safety demonstrations, classic cars to boat building, plus a host of happenings along The Nelson Quay - why not come along and have a whale of a time!
